The coach fired this Monday by Boca Juniors, said today that his departure was "a decision of the club" that he respects and accepts but clarified that he had told the president, Daniel Angelici, that he "felt strong to continue".

"The president has been clear. It is a decision of the club that I respect and accept. We have talked that I felt strong to continue, but he is the president and he has to make decisions," said Rodolfo Arruabarrena at a press conference.

The 'Vasco' thanked the players for "their loyalty, commitment and respect"; Angelici for having "trusted" him "at the time"; the fans and the journalists.

"I want to thank everyone and especially the players," concluded Arruabarrena in his brief statement.

The Boca Juniors CEO said that he made the decision to fire the coach because he thought it was "the best for the club".

"We thank him and we tell him that the doors of the club are open for him. He has been here since he was very young and both he and his coaching staff have left us many things. He has left his mark. He is one of the most correct people I have known since I have been at the club for 10 years," he concluded.

Arruabarrena, who had a contract until June 2017, joined Boca Juniors in August 2014 and won the league and the Argentine Cup at the end of 2015.

The Xeneize team has seven points in the league and is in fifth position in zone 2, six points behind the leader, Lanús. On February 10, San Lorenzo beat Boca 4-0 and won the Argentine Supercup. In the Copa Libertadores, Boca drew 0-0 last Wednesday in their visit to Colombian team Deportivo Cali.

Arruabarrena, who started his coaching career in 2011 in the Argentinean team Tigre and coached the Uruguayan team Nacional in 2013, won around 70 percent of the points he played with Boca.

Boca Juniors will face Racing Club this Thursday in the second round of the Copa Libertadores, and will play the Argentine classic against River Plate on Sunday in the sixth round of the league.

Rolando Schiavi, coach of the reserve team, will temporarily take charge of the team.
