Holidays are one of the most anticipated dates for workers to travel, spend time with family, friends, or as a couple. And since 2022 Peru has gone from having 12 to 14 holidays on its calendar. Do you know how many holidays August will have now?
After the long holiday for Independence Day, where nearly one million people have traveled within the country, generating an estimated economic activity of US$100 million, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, there are now holidays in August. Take note so you can plan.
HOW MANY HOLIDAYS WILL PERU HAVE IN AUGUST?
The following are the festive dates:
- August 6: commemorates the Battle of Junín, considered an important milestone in the fight for the country's independence.
- August 30: celebrates the Festivity of Santa Rosa de Lima, in commemoration of the First Saint of America and patroness of the National Police of Peru.
WILL THERE BE A LONG HOLIDAY IN AUGUST?
Yes. The next long holiday will not be for the Battle of Junín, but for the Day of Santa Rosa de Lima. August 30 will be a Tuesday and it will be a long weekend with Monday, August 29, which has been declared a non-working day by the government, along with the usual rest days from Saturday 27 to Tuesday 30. These days can be used for traveling and spending time with family, among other activities.
IF I WORK ON THE AUGUST HOLIDAYS, WILL I BE PAID TRIPLE?
Both holidays in August, on the 6th and the 30th, are declared through Legislative Decree 713, as a paid rest day for workers subject to the private sector labor regime. This means that if a worker works on Saturday, August 6, without a substitute rest day, they will receive triple payment for the following:
- A daily remuneration for the holiday: amount included in the regular salary.
- A second remuneration for the work performed: additional payment for the hours worked.
- A third remuneration for working on a holiday, without a subsequent substitute rest day.
