Diego Melián became the standout player in the match between Universitario and Deportivo Municipal. After Roberto Ovelar's goal in the early minutes of the game, the Municipal goalkeeper had a lot of work and, against the shots from Universitario, emerged as a figure to keep a clean sheet.
In the 33rd minute, an error in Municipal's defense was stolen by Alexander Succar, who cut outside and took a powerful shot towards the near post. As he was about to celebrate, the goalkeeper saved the goal.
Succar, so far, has only scored one goal in the 2022 season, which was against Universidad San Martín in the memorable 4-0 win at the Ate sports venue. The top scorer for Universitario is Alex Valera (12 goals).

Universitario and Municipal will have to quickly forget what happened at the Monumental Stadium and start working thinking about their next challenges. Both have options to fight for the Clausura Tournament title and cannot afford to drop more points.
The cremas will travel to Cusco next weekend to face Cienciano, one of the leading clubs in the championship. The match at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega will be played on Sunday, August 7 at 3:30 p.m.
On the other hand, 'Muni', after a poor start to the championship, will seek to strengthen at home when they host Sport Boys del Callao, also on Sunday, at the Iván Elías Moreno Stadium in Villa el Salvador, at 1:15 p.m.
