After the death of former president Francisco Morales Bermúdez, the Government of Pedro Castillo declared national mourning on Saturday, July 16.

According to the publication in the Peruvian Journal, Supreme Decree No. 086-2022-PCM states that the National Flag must be flown at half-mast at National Police centers and military facilities throughout Peru.

The measure indicates that the funeral of Morales Bermúdez should be provided with the necessary funeral hours. This was authorized by the President of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Justice and Human Rights.

The statement specifies that the former president of Peru served as head of state from August 29, 1975, until July 28, 1980.

Then, the change of power came after the coup against Juan Velasco Alvarado and ended when Fernando Belaúnde Terry assumed the presidential mandate on July 28, 1980.

Last July 14, the death of former president Francisco Morales Bermúdez at the age of 100 was known. During his second term in office, he was known as the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces.

"It was more related to his age. He had turned 100, he was a bit delicate. He had a general imbalance that in the end could not be restored, he couldn't make it through," said his son, former minister Remigio Morales Bermúdez, to RPP.
