One of the most memorable classics in Peruvian football is the one that took place in the 2006 season, when Alianza Lima managed to defeat Universitario de Deportes 1-0 on matchday 6 of that memorable Clausura Tournament.

But something else that caused a stir in this match was the debut of Antonio Gonzáles, a player identified with the Universitario team. And so, the former footballer himself recounted how he experienced those first moments within the sporting arena of the victorian institution.

"My debut was in a classic and well, it was a matter of pure adrenaline because both sets of fans were there. You know that the Universitario fans would get heated up in the south stand, so Alianza's bar probably wondered who I was because I was with the starters. However, their bar from Villa El Salvador recognized me and said 'you're going to pee your pants here', I replied to them and was solely focused on the game", he said in an interview with Diario Libero.

Furthermore, the popular 'Toñito' highlighted that making his professional debut in a match of this magnitude was reason enough for him to give his all on the field, and for that reason he even revealed that he got into a fight with coach Gerardo Pelusso.

"Once the match started, I was really focused because I took it as an exam, but I bumped into experienced players like Liguera, Martel, Flavio Maestri and still I went all in against anyone, even Pelusso said something about me always hitting and I sent him far away, and Alianza's bench came out, but anyway, I sent them far away too", he explained.

About the fight with Flavio Maestri

Similarly, Antonio Gonzáles confessed that the altercation he had with Flavio Maestri was because the former Alianza Lima striker was upset about him fouling the white and blue players too much, but he affirmed that in the end everything stayed on the field.

"In that match, Nunez told me to mark Liguera or Martel, and I chose the former and, despite being experienced, he never got upset. However, Flavio Maestri did get upset, but it ended there", he asserted.
