Universitario had a young and promising team where figures like 'Oreja' Flores and Carlos Cáceda stood out, but what happened to the other figures in the squad?

Some will remember the young team of Universitario that fought in the first Copa Libertadores Sub-20 in 2011. From that team, which became international champion, came great promises of Peruvian football.

Edison Flores, Carlos Cáceda, and Christofer Gonzáles are some of the names that have stood out over the years and have even been called up to the Peruvian National Team.

On the other side of the coin, there were young promises who couldn't make that leap to excel in Peruvian professional football. Some no longer play football or have a team that wants them.

For example, Joyce Conde, a Peruvian footballer who was only 19 years old at the time, was one of those who made history by winning the first Copa Libertadores Sub-20. His future seemed promising, and many predicted a great career for him.

Even the then coach of Universitario, Juan Reynoso, didn't hesitate to praise the athlete and declared that he was the future of the team. "This player will be in charge of leading 'U'", he stated.

What happened to Joyce Conde?

After the achievement in 2011, his career didn't take off as expected. He didn't perform as expected in 'U' and they decided not to count on him anymore. He went to UCV, but couldn't develop and ended up playing second division with Walter Ormeño club. For years, he went from one category to another, playing for Real Garcilaso, Atlético Torino, Unión Huaral, among others.

The last time his name gained prominence was during an unfortunate incident in 2015. He hit a referee during a second division match. He stopped playing and was seen again the following year in the Copa Perú.

Now, he has been given another chance and plays in the Liga 1, defending the jersey of Alianza Atlético de Sullana.
