We tell you what happened to the life of Luis Llontop, the former goalkeeper of Universitario who at some point saved a penalty from the historic Brazilian goalkeeper Rogério Ceni.

For the 2010 season,

Universitario arrived as the champion of Peru to the Copa Libertadores that year, and in the group stage they faced Libertad from Paraguay, Lanús from Argentina, and Blooming from Bolivia.

The cream team performed well and finished second in their group, advancing to the round of 16, where they would face the always difficult São Paulo from Brazil.

In the round of 16, the first leg played at the Monumental Stadium in Lima ended in a 0-0 draw, so the tie would be decided in the second leg at the Morumbi Stadium, which also finished 0-0 in regular time; so everything was decided by a penalty shootout.

That night, the great figure for the "merengue" team was goalkeeper Luis Llontop, who was chosen by Juan Reynoso instead of Raúl Fernández. The young Peruvian goalkeeper had the best night of his career and with five key saves, he was chosen as the star player of the match.

But in addition to that, he ended the night by saving a penalty from none other than Rogério Ceni, goalkeeper and captain of São Paulo, a goalkeeper who still holds the world record for being the top-scoring goalkeeper in the history of football with 129 goals, all of which he scored from penalties and free kicks.

However, despite Llontop's outstanding performance, Universitario failed to win the series from the penalty spot and was eliminated by a score of 3-1.

What is Luis Llontop doing today?

At 36 years old, the goalkeeper is staying away from football fields. His last team was Piratas FC in the 2019 season, and there is currently no official information confirming his professional retirement.

On the other hand, the athlete continued and completed his studies at the Real Madrid University School in Spain, where he obtained a master's degree in Sports Entity Management.
