The most popular teams in South America

The website "90min.com" conducted a ranking of the 20 most popular teams in South America, highlighting Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes among the top ten. This list combines surveys conducted in each country as well as the number of people attending local and Conmebol tournaments.

Alianza Lima

Alianza Lima ranks 9th in the ranking, ahead of clubs such as Colo Colo, Cruzeiro, and América de Cali. The 'blanquiazul' team has approximately 12 million fans according to national surveys. However, according to Conmebol and local tournament attendance, there are about 9.4 million fans who attend the club's matches.

Universitario

Universitario surpassed its counterpart in this ranking. The 'cremas' are in the 7th position, above the powerful Palmeiras of Brazil. According to national surveys, Universitario has approximately 10 million fans, and the local and Conmebol matches have attracted approximately 10.2 million spectators.

The ranking is completed by other giants of the continent. River Plate and Boca Juniors are in the 4th and 3rd positions, respectively. However, the top two are Brazilian teams, coincidentally teams in which Paolo Guerrero has played: Corinthians is second and his current team, Flamengo, is the first and the most popular in South America.
