There are only two more matches to be played in the Torneo Apertura of the Liga 1 Betsson and the scenario is very favorable for Melgar. Matchday 17 saw the victory of the 'rojinegros' against Sport Boys and the draw between Sport Huancayo -their closest pursuer- and Ayacucho FC.
Sport Huancayo drew 1-1 on Monday, leaving them three points behind the leader Melgar with six points still at stake. The 'Rojo Matador' no longer depends on themselves and the annoyance was evident in the social media post of player Ricardo Salcedo.
After being tied 1-1, Daniel Morales scored the second goal for the visitors, but the action was disallowed as the assistant referee indicated that the Sport Huancayo midfielder was offside. In response, Salcedo posted a message that would be directed towards the match officials.
"Thanks incompetents, they took away our illusion, they brought down our effort and sacrifice of these six months and as always nothing will happen, because that's how we live. No one gave us anything in these 17 matches that we have been fighting for the championship, we just asked not to be robbed and they did it, right now,” expressed Ricardo Salcedo through his Facebook account.
The disallowed goal for Sport Huancayo against Ayacucho FC
Melgar is the leader of the Torneo Apertura with 37 points, followed by Sport Huancayo with 34 points. The other team with mathematical possibilities to win the championship is Sporting Cristal, with 32 points.
Sport Huancayo will host Universitario in the next match and will close the tournament as an away team against Sport Boys. On the other hand, Melgar will face Atlético Grau in the following match, in Arequipa, and then will play against Deportivo Cali in Colombia for the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana Round of 16. After that, they will finish the Apertura by facing Alianza Atlético in Sullana.
