Flamengo and Palmeiras face off this Saturday at the revamped Estadio Centenario in Montevideo for the grand final of the 2021 Copa Libertadores, an edition that brings together the last winners of South America's top club competition.
The fight for the title offered a highly intense match in which Raphael Veiga opened the scoring for 'Verdao' just 5 minutes into the game and the equalizer came in the second half through a great finish by 'Gabigol'. When 'Fla' scored, it seemed like they were close to completing the comeback, but the 90 minutes were completed and the match went into extra time.
For the start of this stage, coach Abel Ferreira decided to replace Veiga and sent the controversial Deyverson onto the field. The Brazilian forward had only been on the pitch for a few moments when he broke the deadlock.
Andreas Pereira made a poor control trying to play the ball and Deyverson stole it from him, managing to get in front of goalkeeper Diego Alves and powerfully scored to establish the 2-1.
The forward had only played 4 games in the competition and scored his first goal in the Copa Libertadores final.
