America and the world recognize the new leadership of the national leader José Quiñones Gonzáles, today president of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation and main architect for our country to be able to organize the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games that was a global success.
The prestigious Olympic magazine Around the Rings recognizes the work of the national leader. "A new leadership of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation was the result of the contested elections held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic."
"The prelude to these suffrages with the participation of the 28 national federations that are members of the continental organization, was marked by the criticisms of a sector opposed to the re-election as president of the Dominican William Ozuna, led by the representatives of Peru, Argentina and the United States."

After a prolonged electoral day, the Peruvian José Quiñones won by two votes against Ozuna, who had presided over the Pan American Federation for 12 years. "We are a team," Quiñones said to Around The Rings, a member of the Executive Board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). In his statements, he ratified the statements of the document that they had sent to the national federations as the main objectives to be accomplished in their new mandate.
Good governance, restructuring and transparency of the budget, and equity in the development plans of the federations will be immediate tasks in the management, commented the Peruvian.
Quiñones, former president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee and a key figure in the conquest of Lima as the headquarters of the 2019 Pan American Games, hinted that his position as head of the South American Confederation could be taken by another executive now with his new election.
