¡Arriba Perú!
Young Peruvian athlete Alexia Sotomayor broke the South American record for 100 meters backstroke in her debut at the Peru Bicentennial South American Youth Aquatic Sports Championship, held at Videna. In addition, the Peruvian swimmer won the gold medal along with Argentinean Candela Raviola.
¡Alexia makes history!
The competitor had her first participation on the morning of Tuesday, November 9th, where she managed to put her name on the South American record for 1,000 meters backstroke, with a time of 1:03.98. In this way, she surpassed the record held by Brazilian Fernando Goeij, who did 01:04.53 in 2015.
Thanks to her excellent performance, the Peruvian athlete qualified for the finals of the competition, where she emerged victorious and won the gold medal along with Argentinean Candela Raviola.
