With one game left to conclude Phase 2 of the Liga 1 Betsson, Universitario de Deportes is in third place in the cumulative table and is very close to securing a spot in the 2022 Copa Libertadores. However, there is a shadow that could interfere with their path.

What happened? The Economic and Financial Control Organ (OCEF) informed Universitario that it has identified a possible violation of the Regulations for the Granting of Licenses. If they fail to comply with their tax and remuneration obligations, they risk being fined and having points deducted for repeat offenses.

Among the points mentioned in the letter sent to Universitario is that the club has an outstanding payment due for the prize to former coach Ángel Comizzo for the runner-up position. But that's not all. They also have 11 pending settlements with club personnel.

Another point detailed in the letter is that they have not fulfilled the payment of the General Sales Tax for the months of April, May, June, July, and August. Additionally, there are outstanding balances to be paid for the periods of December (2020), January, and March 2021.

RPP Noticias learned that the Licensing Commission of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), the entity that sanctions, has not yet convened to evaluate the case and others that may be on the agenda. So, the uncertainty grows.

Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, and Melgar request the enforcement of the regulations to the Licensing Commission

Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, and FBC Melgar have issued a statement addressed to the Licensing Commission and Licensing Tribunal of the FPF, publicly requesting that the regulations of the Liga 1 be properly enforced.

"We are just over 1 month away from the conclusion of the LIGA1 2021 Championship and until a week ago, the last resolution issued by the Tribunal corresponded to a report from April 2021. These gaps in the issuance of resolutions by the Tribunal lead to the Championship being affected by claims and lack of clarity in the results. According to the Regulations, the Management, Commission, and Tribunal must act promptly and efficiently," they state in their letter.
