More than the victory, although suffered, Guillermo Vázquez highlighted the way in which Pumas endured the onslaughts of an aggressive Toluca, which was not intimidated by the disadvantage on the scoreboard; the coach of the UNAM team considered that effectiveness accompanied them in their first match played at the Olímpico Universitario.
"The team had many chances and was able to convert some important ones; we worked well to achieve the victory, we generated other opportunities, but we need to improve in managing the game to avoid suffering like now; in general, I liked the collective performance, but we need to take it easy, think about taking it one game at a time," he commented.
By periods of the match against the Diablos Rojos, Pumas displayed part of the dynamic and offensive arsenal that last semester led them to the final of the tournament, as well as to the top of the general classification, a situation that Vázquez Herrera praised from his team, taking into account that this tournament is just beginning.
"The team maintains the same idea, defends well, attacks well, we have to keep going in that direction, correcting and improving whatever is necessary; I think now we have interesting people to turn things around when the game gets complicated, I feel that we have a more complete squad," he stated.
On the other hand, Eduardo Herrera, author of the third goal, the winning goal against the State of Mexico team, expressed the importance of starting the Clausura 2016 activity at home with a favorable result for their cause; the forward downplayed the praise and prioritized the team's performance, beyond his first goal in the tournament.
"It is important to start with a victory here at CU, last tournament we had good performances at home, and that is the idea for this tournament, to continue making ourselves strong," he said after the match.
