Peruvian pride. National fencer Maria Luisa Doig became champion at the Pre-Olympic Americas held in Costa Rica. With this victory, our representative qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
Her last participation in this international tournament was in 2008 (Beijing Olympics), when she was only 16 years old.
The National fencer defeated Canadian fencer Leonora Mackinnon with a score of 15-11 in the final of the Women’s Foil event at the Pre-Olympics. She secured her direct qualification to the upcoming Olympic Games, which will take place from July 23 to August 8 of this year, if the current pandemic allows it.
It is worth noting that Doig joins the Peruvian delegation, which already has 19 athletes qualified for the international competition.
