Palmeiras Wins 61st Edition of Copa Libertadores
Just like in 1999, Palmeiras conquered the 61st edition of the Copa Libertadores on Saturday by defeating Santos 1-0 in the second single-match final in the tournament's history, played this time at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Breno Lopes scored in the 98th minute of a match that until then lacked emotions, and with the title, Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira succeeds his compatriot Jorge Jesús as the winner of the trophy.
Jorge Jesus led Flamengo's conquest in 2019.
Breno Lopes, a 25-year-old forward, joined Palmeiras in November 2020 from Juventude in the Brazilian second division.
