After the temporary cancellation of the Liga 1, the protagonists of Peruvian football raised their voices about what happened on August 7th with the return of national soccer with the match between Universitario vs. Cantolao.
José Carlos Fernández, forward for Carlos Mannucci, spoke out after the suspension of the tournament, which he believes should resume, and requested to work together with Liga 1 and the authorities.
"There is a lot of anger, there was a lot of anxiety and eagerness to return. The trigger was what happened with the people outside the stadium, but there were also bad actions from us as main actors," Fernández commented on RPP.
"Football is an industry like others that have been reactivated. We are workers like others. The issue of strict concentration could have consequences from a sporting perspective," he added.
"The football player who does not follow the protocol and does not take responsibility should be punished as if it were doping, one or two years out of the system, because they are putting lives at risk."
"What happened, I think, did not have much to do with football itself. If the organizers of Liga 1 saw those people on the streets, they could not do anything, but the authorities could," he concluded.
