Binacional will debut this year in the Copa Libertadores and is looking not to miss any details, so they have not only signed players with international tournament experience, but also aim to have more options in different positions on the field.
This is the case for the goalkeeper position, where in addition to securing the permanence of Michael Sotillo and Luis Araujo, they have incorporated Raúl Fernández. "I am happy to join the institution, it is the current champion of Peruvian football. Being here is immense joy," he declared to GolPerú.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper has been part of four editions of the Copa Libertadores, defending Universitario de Deportes in all of them. That experience, in addition to his time at Nice in France and FC Dallas in the MLS, allowed him to reach the Peruvian National Team, something that Fernández sets as a goal for this season.
"It is important to play in the Copa Libertadores, we have been drawn into a very tough group, but the team is preparing to face it. It's a matter of each one of us, and my idea is to return to the national team," said the goalkeeper.
Raúl Fernández was last called up to the Peruvian National Team in 2014, when Pablo Bengoechea was the coach, and his last game played was that year in the friendly against Chile, where Peru lost 3-0.
