The new coach of Santos, Jesualdo Ferreira, was introduced at a press conference, and it was inevitable for journalists to ask the Portuguese about the situation of Christian Cueva, who did not have any participation in the last part of the year wearing the ‘Peixe’ shirt.
The Peruvian was more involved in off-field incidents and was not considered for the matches in the last months of 2019, by the then coach, Jorge Sampaoli. While his story is known, it is not for Jesualdo Ferreira.
“I can't answer because I don't know him well. I don't know what the problems are. And I will never talk about something that I have no knowledge or quality to explain. At the right time, I will speak about it,” Ferreira said in response to a question from a press member.
Christian Cueva traveled to Brazil on Tuesday to join Santos' preseason training. The 28 year-old football player received support from the fans at the airport before departing to the neighboring country.
Cueva arrived at Santos in February 2019, coming from the Russian club Krasnodar, in exchange for $7 million, an amount that the Brazilian club has to pay in installments until 2022, when his contract with the Brazilian team ends. The Peruvian is on loan until the end of January, but with an obligatory purchase option.
