Melgar was the only Peruvian team that still didn't know its opponent in the Copa Sudamericana until now. The team led by Carlos Bustos was going to face 'Bolivia 1' in the first stage of the tournament, which ended up being Nacional de Potosí due to its position in the Bolivian league at the end of its 26 rounds.
In the end, Nacional de Potosí finished in seventh place in the Bolivian Clausura Tournament with 34 points. The team led by Miguel Zahzú lost 3-2 against Always Ready in the last match, which prevented them from having a better position. However, they immediately knew that they were going to play against Melgar in the Copa Sudamericana.
It is important to mention that Melgar is one of the four Peruvian clubs in the Copa Sudamericana along with Atlético Grau, Sport Huancayo, and Cusco FC. The red and black team secured their spot in this tournament by finishing in sixth place in the accumulated table of the Liga 1 Movistar 2019 with 47 points.
On the other hand, the Bolivian tournament just ended this weekend after the postponement of the matches due to the country's political problems. The team that was crowned champion was none other than Jorge Wilstermann, former club of Roberto Mosquera and currently managed by Cristian Díaz.
