Carlos Beltrán has been a key player in Alianza Lima's Clausura Tournament title. Since the arrival of Pablo Bengoechea, 'Che' has been a recurring element in the central defense and his good performance has earned him recognition from the fans. However, things were not like that for him at the beginning of the year.
In an interview with 'Fútbol Como Cancha' from RPP News, Carlos Beltrán recalled what he experienced at Alianza Lima with Miguel Ángel Russo as coach. The player born in Santa Fe indicated that the Argentine coach hardly even looked at him and preferred not to say anything at the time because of the affection he had for the institution.
"Although Miguel Ángel Russo was a renowned coach, I believe he did not know how to translate what he wanted for Alianza Lima into the situation of the team. To say that, during the months he was here, he spoke to me twice and looked at me three times in the face is a lot. I don't know if it was something with me or with others, but he always sent me to the sidelines. I never wanted to say anything, but 11 months later, one can do it in a calmer way," he said.
In the 2019 Liga 1 Movistar, Carlos Beltrán played 23 matches and scored three goals with Alianza Lima, the last one in the 3-2 victory against Unión Comercio. Now, the 29-year-old footballer will play in the semifinals for the national title against Sporting Cristal.
