The Monumental Stadium in Lima confirmed as the venue for the Copa Libertadores final

Conmebol has confirmed the Monumental Stadium in Lima as the venue for the Copa Libertadores 2019 final, which will take place on Saturday, November 23rd. Since this announcement, the interest in plane tickets and accommodation in the Peruvian capital has multiplied by large numbers.

Increased interest in travel from Argentina and Brazil

Since the announcement of the iconic stadium in Ate as the venue for the most important club match in the continent, Kayak, the leading travel search engine in the industry, has noticed a significant increase in searches from Argentina and Brazil towards the capital city:

  • Argentina: 1,445% growth in searches. Buenos Aires represents 7% of the total received.
  • Brazil: 2,762% growth in searches. Rio de Janeiro represents 12% of the total received.

Expected number of tourists and estimated expenses

Considering that at least 25,000 tourists will come (Conmebol allocates 12,500 tickets for each team's fans, i.e., Argentinians and Brazilians) and that they will stay around three days, it is estimated that the average expenditure per person will be $1,500, including airfare, hotel, restaurant, transportation, and entertainment.

Economic impact for Lima

"The expectation is to have no less than 25,000 foreign tourists, who will stay around three days and spend $1,500 each. [Including] the authorities who will come, we estimate to generate $50 million," said Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur).

An opportunity to exploit the city's tourism potential

The arrival of the first single-match final in the history of the continental tournament will be a great opportunity to exploit the tourism potential of the city, which is more than prepared to receive an influx of people not only from the countries involved but also from Peruvians who live outside the capital.
