Pumas vs. Atlas faced off at the Universitario Olympic Stadium. The UNAM team proved to be superior to the 'rojinegros', winning by a clear 5-1. However, after the goals, an incident that caught everyone's attention was the expulsion of Anderson Santamaría, who was shown a red card for handling the ball with his hand.
Just 5 minutes into the second half, the Peruvian player tried to regain possession of the ball, but it hit his arms and moved a few meters. The referee didn't hesitate and immediately showed him a second yellow card, despite the protests of his teammates, and sent him off to the dressing room.
In their home stadium, the Mexico City Universitario, Pumas prevailed with goals from Paraguayan Carlos González, Chilean Felipe Mora, Argentine Nicolás Freire, and Mexican Andrés Iniestra, as well as an own goal from Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.
Pumas had 55 percent possession in the first half and took the lead with a goal from González in the 11th minute, assisted by Argentine Víctor Malcorra. However, Atlas responded with a goal from Jesús Isijara due to a defensive mistake.
The turning point came with the expulsion of Peruvian player Anderson Santamaría due to a double yellow card; from that moment on, Pumas dominated their opponent and reflected it with goals.
