Victor Aspíllaga, national director of affiliated sports at the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), presented his resignation to the position after the announcement of the withdrawal of economic subsidy to national athletes. He did it through a controversial letter addressed to Sebastián Suito, president of the organization.
The leader informed that his decision responds to a request from the institution's own leader, who considered that Dinadaf "was the responsible and causative body of the crisis" due to the departure of 146 athletes from the Athlete Support Program (PAD).
"I felt betrayed by you, by all the people who work with me, and above all, by the athletes," highlighted Aspíllaga in his statement, after specifying that Suito asked him to proceed with the review of the economic subsidies, in addition to requesting the initiation of legal actions against the managers of Dinadaf for their alleged responsibility in the improper delivery of money.
The argument given for the determination was "to verify if the PAD benefited athletes comply with the required sporting achievement in the regulations (gold, silver, and bronze medals), with the purpose of not causing economic damage to the IPD."
"I am extremely outraged by what is happening. For the good of all the athletes in our country, I eagerly hope that the IPD changes for the better, something that will not be achieved under your mandate, because someone who goes against the truth and uses an athlete to shield their own mistakes is simply not worthy or capable of leading the national sports system, adding to the fact that you are not a highly qualified athlete," said Victor Aspíllaga referring to the current head of the maximum body of national sports.
