Former player and current coach Natalia Málaga asks young volleyball players to represent the national team with courage, dedication, and identity
In a recent post on her Facebook account, the renowned former player and current coach of the youth category, Natalia Málaga, asked young volleyball players to have courage, dedication, and identity when representing the national volleyball team in international competitions.
Málaga wrote, "You have to do it without expecting anything in return, put Peru first, feel a sense of pride when wearing the national jersey, feel the weight of the shirt when singing the anthem, and not let it weigh you down."
"It's not about size or the level of play. It's about mentality. Don't back down from the opponent, don't let them disrespect us, even if we are weaker in terms of height, strength, or anything else. I face whatever comes my way. If the opponent is bigger, there's no reason to be afraid. I'll never cry in defeat, but it'll cost you to beat me. How do I lose? By fighting until the end," she said.
"We need to instill the values we have lost and respect for things. They need to be formed as good people first, and then as players. Values are no longer present. We need to uplift our country, if we truly want to," added the Olympic medalist, as reported by the Andina news agency.
