One man died from a gunshot and another was injured in a confrontation between hooligans during the Peruvian soccer classic between Alianza Lima and Universitario, as reported by the Police.

"Confrontations between Universitario and Alianza Lima hooligans cause a fatality and a gunshot injury," stated the Police in a press release.

The incidents took place on Sunday afternoon in the district of San Luis, near the Universitario stadium, where groups of fans from the two most popular clubs in the country clashed.

Luis Ruiz, 23 years old, was shot in the chest and was taken to a clinic, where he died. Additionally, José Mejía was injured by a shot in the rib area, said the Police.

Following the confrontation, the Police arrested Leandro Gálvez, 23 years old, who was carrying a revolver, according to the press release.

Universitario won the Peruvian derby by defeating Alianza Lima 1-0 on Sunday, extending their lead in the Clausura tournament to 22 points, five more than their followers, Sporting Cristal and Alianza. (D)
