The hard training away from family and country paid off for Rolando Bedoya. The Peruvian welterweight fighter had a dream international debut at SFT 15, an MMA event in Brazil.
This came after defeating the local Washington Nunes, 37 years old, by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, and 29-28) in Sao Paulo. Although it was a close fight, Rolando Bedoya faced some difficulties with his opponent's low kicks in the first round.
However, as the minutes went by, the Peruvian fighter gained confidence and came close to finishing the fight in the second round. After a series of elbow and punch combinations, Washington Nunes was hurt, but the bell saved him.
In the third round, with greater resistance, 22-year-old Rolando Bedoya dominated the fight and ended the round better. In the end, the judges awarded him the victory, his first international win.
"I had worked on my elbows and knees, and if possible, to take him down, but my opponent was tough. I think I gained that physicality by training, and it helped me maintain my endurance," said Rolando Bedoya, who has been training in Brazil since June with the Chute Boxe team in Sao Paulo.
