However, the 27-year-old player has received the support of his coach, Jorge Sampaoli, and Ricardo Gareca himself, who called him up again for the Peruvian National Team for the upcoming FIFA friendlies against Ecuador and Brazil. Cueva has wanted to repay this trust by getting in shape and fighting day by day in training, and it seems to be paying off.
According to ESPN FC, the 27-year-old forward is being considered to play against Chapecoense, for the 17th round of the Brazilian Serie A. "Christian Cueva was going to ask for permission to come to Lima and train, however, they told him no because he could surprisingly be included in the list against Chapecoense this weekend," commented on the sports show.
Days before Gareca's call-up, the president of Santos FC, José Carlos Peres, spoke to a Brazilian media outlet and revealed that Christian Cueva made several efforts to get into rhythm with the team, highlighting his commitment to fit in with the group, despite the family problems he was going through.
