A rematch for the 'Old Continent'
Álvaro Ampuero returned to Europe after five years to sign with Zira FK from the Premier League of Azerbaijan for one year. The former Deportivo Municipal player arrived in Europe on loan with an option to buy.
At 26 years old, Álvaro Ampuero has crossed the pond again to play in Europe. It's true that it won't be one of the top five leagues like Italy, where he went in 2013 when he signed with Parma and returned the following year.
The left-footed Peruvian player arrived in Azerbaijan on Wednesday but would only be presented on Thursday, after the necessary medical examinations. Ampuero's goal is to establish himself in Europe, now more mature.
This year, Álvaro Ampuero has played seven matches with Deportivo Municipal (603 minutes), all as a starter, and has not been able to score a goal.
The lefty player's career started at Universitario de Deportes, which transferred him to Parma in the Serie A of Italy. He then signed with Padova in Serie B and finally anchored at Salernitana in the Serie C of 'Calcio', before returning to 'U' in 2014. He also played for San Martín and Deportivo Municipal.
