The Congress of the Republic held a recognition ceremony for the Peruvian athletes who won medals in the Pan American Games Lima 2019, after the closure of the sporting event that took place in recent weeks.
The event was led by the President of the Congress, Pedro Olaechea, and the congresswoman from Popular Action, Paloma Noceda. Various legislators also participated, such as the spokespersons for the political factions Popular Force (Carlos Tubino), New Peru (Indira Huilca), and the third Vice President of Parliament, Marvin Palma.
In a brief speech to the athletes, Pedro Olaechea praised the achievement and excellence of the Pan American Games medalists in this recent competition, in which Peru won a total of 39 medals, 11 of them gold.
"That achievement shows the way for Peruvians, it shows the path that sacrifice, effort, sleepless nights, and failures are part of a path to achieve what you have achieved, excellence, and that is what Peru has to start learning. We have to strive every day for excellence," commented the President of the Congress.
Sebastián Suito, President of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), and the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Peru, Kate Harrison, also participated in the event.
