Lucca Mesinas was the one who closed the Peruvian participation in the surfing finals of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. And he did it with a bang, as he climbed to the top of the podium in the shortboard category.
Just like 'Piccolo' Clemente, Mesinas received the gold medal from the hands of President Martín Vizcarra. And then they both sang the national anthem of Peru, accompanied by all the audience gathered at Punta Rocas beach.

Peruvian surfing has won a total of seven medals at the Pan American Games: three gold medals thanks to Lucca Mesinas, Daniella Rosas, and 'Piccolo' Clemente; three silver medals obtained by Tamil Martino, Vania Torres, and María Fernanda Reyes, and one bronze medal by Itzel Delgado.
In addition, surfing at Lima 2019 has earned two spots for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the shortboard category. That means Lucca Mesinas and Daniella Rosas will be competing in the Japanese capital next year.
