Peruvian surfing is celebrating. It has won three gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. And one of the gold medals was won by Lucca Mesinas, who won in the shortboard category.
"I'm super happy with this result. Maybe it wasn't my best performance, but what matters is that I won the gold. I was really focused on this result and it happened," Mesinas said to Movistar Deportes after his victory.
"It's been an incredible day for all the national surfers. We have won three gold medals and three silver medals, and two days ago Itzel won the bronze. I'm happy for the whole team and for the performance we have given," he added.
With this result, Lucca also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. "Now I'm super focused on that. There's one year left for it to take place, so we're going to train hard for that championship. The truth is that all of this is a dream. Since day 1, I have dreamed of being in this final, with all the people and raising the flag of Peru," he concluded.
