He took third place. Nicolás Pacheco won the bronze medal in the Skeet Shooting final at Lima 2019, which took place this afternoon at Las Palmas Air Base. The Peruvian tied with American Christian Elliott and Juan Schaeffer, however, a warning left him in third place. How did he take it?
Although Pacheco won Peru's eighth bronze medal in the medal table of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, he was aiming for gold and came close to achieving it. The Peruvian reached 42 targets and matched Elliott and Schaeffer's score, thus competing for the gold medal.
However, the judge gave him two red cards, canceling two shots and placing him in third place in the competition. This was because he raised his gun above the tape that marks the maximum height for shooting. Additionally, since he qualified in sixth place for the final, he only had a chance to win the bronze medal.
Pacheco secured his spot for Tokyo 2020. Although the Lima 2019 Pan American Games offer two spots for the Olympic Games in Shooting, American Christian Elliott, who won the gold medal, had already qualified previously, so one more spot opens up, which belongs to the Peruvian.
