Mauricio Fiol shared a sad news tonight through his social media and said he feels 'shocked', because after receiving the necessary anti-doping tests for his participation in the Pan American Games Lima 2019, they tested positive and keep him away from the competitions.
"Hello, I want to inform the press, the public and all the people who have supported me during this time a very difficult and sad news. I just received an official statement from the International Swimming Federation with the results of four anti-doping tests from the last four months. The results are as follows: April 23rd negative, May 22nd negative, June 30th positive, July 7th positive," he said.
The athlete stated that he would have to be a 'self-destructive sick person' to consume the substance (stanozolol) for which he had already been sanctioned for four years and promised to "dedicate all my strength to discover what has happened and prove my innocence."
Furthermore, Fiol asked the anti-doping authorities in Peru to perform all the necessary tests to get to the bottom of the issue and added that, although most people may think he is guilty, he will prove otherwise. Unfortunately, the swimmer will not be able to compete in the Pan American Games as proving his innocence will take a considerable amount of time.
It should be noted that four years ago, the athlete lost the silver medal he won in the 200 meters butterfly during the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and was disqualified from this international event after testing positive in the anti-doping control.
