Peruvian shooter Alessandro de Souza did everything within his reach, but couldn't make it to the podium in the trap shooting event at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The national athlete finished in fourth position.

De Souza, who is qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, hit 28 targets. Meanwhile, American shooter Brian Burrows hit 43 targets, securing the Pan American gold medal.

The silver medal went to Derek Haldeman, also from the United States, who hit 40 targets, and the bronze medal went to Brazilian shooter Roberto Schimts, who hit 32 targets. This means that Peru couldn't repeat the success of the Toronto 2015 Games, where Francisco Boza won gold in this event.

Alessandro de Souza's participation doesn't end today. He will continue competing tomorrow, Wednesday, in the mixed trap event. His partner, starting from 9:00 AM, will be Daniela Pacheco.

PREVIEW

Alessandro de Souza participated in the first qualification round of the men's trap event. The 27-year-old Peruvian shooter finished in third place with a total of 48 points.

De Souza has been placed in the first squad alongside Dominican shooter David Yunes, Mexican shooter Jesús Balboa, Argentine shooter Fernando Borello, Chilean shooter Claudio Vergara, and American shooter Brian Burrows.

If Alessandro de Souza remains among the top six in the general standings after the second qualification round, he will have the opportunity to compete for a medal in the final, which will take place on Tuesday, July 30th, starting at 2:30 PM.

On the other hand, national shooter Asier Cilloniz finished the first stage in 17th place with 43 points. However, he will also have a chance to improve his performance and secure a spot in the final.
