Inés Melchor was ruled out of the Marathon event at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games due to a back injury. After the news was confirmed, the Peruvian long-distance runner did not hide her disappointment at being left out of the competition.
"Unfortunately, fate plays against me once again. I am sad and disappointed for not bringing a medal to my country," said the current South American record holder in the Marathon.
The 32-year-old national athlete even said she traveled abroad to arrive in the best possible shape for her specialty. "I have prepared a lot to run the Marathon in Lima at the Pan American Games. I even trained overseas to be in the best possible condition," she added.
The national athlete, who was born in Huancavelica, had great chances of winning a medal at the Pan American Games.
