The Copa Perú always brings surprises. This year it has three new teams that just joined this season and, although the road is very long, they could play in the First Division in 2019.
These teams are Comerciantes de Belén (Iquitos), Deportivo Robles de Calca (Cusco) and Los Peloteros de Islay (Arequipa). What do these three teams have in common? Well, they were all founded between last year and this year, and they have just become active this season.
Since they belong to leagues that do not have a second category, it was enough for them to register. With a little investment and they were ready: they played in their tournaments and qualified for the Provincial Stage, which they also successfully passed, and today they are part of their Departmental League.
Although they still have a long way to go, they have the possibility of qualifying for the National stage first, and reaching the final four, just like the rest of the participants. But it would be very interesting for such new teams to become professionals so quickly. That only happens in Peru.
