Kylian Mbappé scored the goal that ensured France's place in the round of 16, finishing with the perfect six points in Group C.
Mbappé, 19, took advantage of a rebound from a Peruvian defender after a crossed left-footed shot from veteran Olivier Giroud in the 34th minute at the Ekaterinburg Arena, which was dominated by over 10,000 Peruvian fans who cheered for their team during the 90 minutes.
The Spanish newspaper Marca highlighted the two good performances by Peru against Denmark and France, but they lacked goals and that cost them. According to the Argentinian newspaper Olé, "Gareca's team left applauded and with their heads held high, very close to equalizing against a powerhouse. They lacked efficiency in finishing. They made history."
