President of the Peruvian Football Federation Announces the Creation of the Professional Football League
The president of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), Edwin Oviedo, announced the creation of the Professional Football League, which will be responsible, among other things, for organizing the national championship of the first and second divisions in 2019.
Appointment of the President of the Organizing Commission
The head of the FPF stated that the president of the Organizing Commission of FPF Competitions will be the former executive of Sporting Cristal, Felipe Cantuarias, due to his extensive experience in sports management.
This new organization will start operating in January 2019 and will be responsible for managing, organizing, and operating the "official competition of Peruvian professional football."
"Since we started our management, we have been consistent in implementing our strategic plan: the Centennial Plan. The reform of clubs and championships is definitely the missing link in the change we initiated three years ago," said Oviedo at a press conference.
Think of the Family
As president of the Commission of the new entity in Peruvian football, Cantuarias indicated that one of the objectives of his management is for violence to disappear in stadiums so that families can attend again, as it was before.
"We must bring football back to the family, and the family back to football. This is a historic decision by the FPF, which marks the beginning of a new era in order to professionalize our football with a long-term vision," said Cantuarias.
"The positive impact of the World Cup must trigger change, which, in order to be successful, requires the participation of all actors in the football system, mainly the clubs," he added.
