Fútbol: Cristian Benavente dreams of playing in Peru’s national team

He was born in Spain, but his heart is “blanco y rojo” (white and red). He learned to love our motherland far away from the country. And he is willing to defend the national team in Russia 2018. Of course, we are talking about one of Cristian Benavente's dreams, who also hopes to continue his career (in a few years) in Peruvian soccer.

"I would like to play sports in Peru. If I named a club, I would be lying. I have had some contacts with a club in Peru, but the opportunity did not arise. I would like to play in Peru because I want to live there," said Cristian Benavente on Radio Capital.

The ‘Chaval’ played in the last two friendly matches that the Peruvian national team faced. Benavente played some minutes against Croatia and Iceland. And, after his return to the national team, the debate arose about whether or not he should be included in the final list that Ricardo Gareca will announce to compete in the 2018 World Cup.

“I adore Peru. It is a feeling that was born, first, because of my mother and my grandparents who are Peruvian. For me, it would be an honor to be in the World Cup. We have to wait a couple of weeks to find out if it is possible. If I have to go, I will go with a lot of enthusiasm,” added the former Real Madrid player.

At the moment, Gareca has started training at La Videna, with the aim of keeping some players from the Peruvian national team in shape. On June 4, Gareca will announce the final list of players he will take to Russia 2018.
