He is one of the few coaches who enjoys seeing the growth of his players in the institution he has always loved. Javier Chirinos was champion of the Copa Libertadores Sub-20, with 'Oreja' Flores and Andy Polo. He saw them grow and enjoy, just like several members of the Universitario de Deportes first team, whom he will now coach as the main strategist, following Pedro Troglio's departure.
"Knowing the players gives me a certain advantage, but not a certainty that it can make me win the games. It will depend on the work they plan and what the players assimilate as a collective force", said Chirinos on RPP Noticias.
In this sense, the coach recalled the years he has worked at Universitario and expressed that he will take on the role of head coach with great responsibility. And, of course, the intention will be to extend his stay in that position, while the management looks abroad.
On the other hand, Chirinos trusts in a good start for 'U' in the Torneo Apertura, after finishing second-to-last in the Torneo de Verano. The 'cremas' will start a new era against Melgar on May 20.
"We will try to do our best, reach the Universitario player, we know their ability, they are in 'U' for a reason and it will be an interesting commitment. The club is in an uncomfortable position, but we must look at the Apertura's restart with optimism", concluded.
