Paolo Guerrero's future in the World Cup depends on TAS ruling
Paolo Guerrero has left for Switzerland, where his hearing with TAS will take place on Thursday, May 3, to resolve his case. The 'Predator' hopes for absolution, but the World Anti-Doping Agency requests his suspension to be extended to two years, after testing positive for benzoylecgonine consumption.
"I am confident that everything will be resolved, I want to be back and train with my teammates and play. I am physically fit. I want to come back soon and be with my teammates once and for all," he said in an interview with Esporte Interativo.

Regarding his future, the forward of the Peruvian National Team added: "I have a contract with Flamengo. I am going to Switzerland to resolve the issue and return as soon as possible because I want to play."
Spanish lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo is handling Paolo Guerrero's defense: "If there is no unfavorable decision, the player will be able to play immediately, and for the past two months, he has been training with his club, as authorized by the regulations," said the Valencian lawyer, specialist in international sports justice.
Paolo Guerrero was initially sanctioned for a year on November 3, 2017, after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite of cocaine, after the match between Argentina and Peru in the World Cup qualifiers played on October 5. The Appeal Commission reduced the sanction to six months after the player claimed that the substance came from a tea with remnants of coca leaves.
The outcome of Thursday's hearing will determine his participation in the World Cup in Russia, which begins in June.
