A controversy erupted over the celebration that a youth player from Fluminense performed seconds before scoring the last of the five goals with which his team defeated Vasco da Gama 5-3 and won the Copa Río. The video was uploaded to YouTube.
Taking advantage of a bad corner kick from the opponents, Samuel found himself face to face with the goal without any opponents nearby, so before making the final touch, he danced a few hip hop steps.
This unleashed the anger of several Vasco da Gama players, who not only had to endure losing the tournament title but also felt mocked. This is shown in this YouTube video.
The losers tried to surround the Fluminense forward to hit him in any way possible, encountering resistance from Samuel's teammates.
Leo Percovich, coach of Fluminense, admitted that his forward made a mistake by celebrating in that way (so he announced that he will sanction him), however he considered the reaction of the rival team members to be excessive.
As can be seen in the YouTube video accompanying this article, the situation could have ended in tragedy because even the fans entered the field.
