Universitario de Deportes: Pedro Troglio promotes young players
Since Pedro Troglio took over as coach of Universitario de Deportes, he made it clear that his weakness was young players. The strategist requested videos of the reserve team and personally attended every youth tournament to watch young prospects. Last year he debuted four boys and this season, seven.
The only position where Pedro Troglio has not debuted anyone is in goal. However, Patrick Zubczuk has earned the starting position under his command and it is the first year he has been consolidated in the first team since his debut in 2014. For this reason, he is the one called to occupy the goal in this team of only young players that 'Rulo' promoted in Universitario de Deportes. The team is as follows (4-3-3):
The back four
Luis Miguel Rodríguez (17): Right back. He debuted last year away to Sport Huancayo (1-0), but only played a few minutes. He then didn't have much continuity and this year, he has not been seen on the squad list anymore.
Brayan Velarde (19): Defender. He consolidated himself in the starting team this year. He is slowly showing solidity in defense, although he still has a long way to go to fill Alberto Rodríguez's shoes.
Óscar Pacheco (20): Defender. He debuted against Unión Comercio last year (3-2) and struggled to mark Reimond Manco. He was not considered for the first team of Universitario de Deportes anymore.
Axel Chávez (20): Left back. He made his debut this year, starting for the first time against Ayacucho (4-2). He has been one of the alternatives in the left back position.
The midfield
Jesús Barco (21): He debuted last year against UTC (3-2) and in 2018 he has accumulated more minutes as a starter. Although he has had some good games, sometimes he fails in marking. He is a fixed replacement piece for coach Pedro Troglio.
Paulo de la Cruz (18): He won the fans over in the early games of the year, but then was relegated to the reserve team. The reason why he no longer plays under Pedro Troglio is unknown.
Yonatan Cerdán (19): He made a good impression in his debut against San Martín (1-1), but he has not gained the complete trust of Universitario de Deportes coach yet. He has come on in some matches.
The attack
Kleiber Palomino (18): The winger also made his debut this year in the Copa Libertadores, but then did not get any minutes. He stands out for his speed and hopes to earn a place in Universitario de Deportes.
Sandro Montesinos (18): He had a great performance in his debut against Comerciantes Unidos (1-0). However, he was not on point against Ayacucho and did not meet the expectations of the fans.
Anthony Osorio (19): He is called to be the '9' of Universitario de Deportes; however, he still has not found consistency. It is expected that he will take off in the Apertura Tournament.
The substitute
Ignacio Rey (18): He made his debut last year against Juan Aurich (2-0). This season he has not had many minutes (only 22). He also plays as a striker and competes for the position with Anthony Osorio.
