Alejandro Duarte had mixed feelings last Saturday. On one hand, his call-up to the Peruvian National Team filled him with happiness. However, hours later he had to swallow his anger for the five goals conceded in the match between San Martín and Sporting Cristal.
After the match against the "celestes", Duarte spoke about this duality of emotions. "I would have loved for the match to be different. I think reaching the national team is also a great achievement of my teammates who have helped me get here. I would have loved to share a complete joy with them by giving ourselves a victory."
Gallese is the top choice
Alongside Duarte, Ricardo Gareca also called up goalkeepers José Carvallo (UTC) and Carlos Cáceda (Deportivo Municipal). But the San Martín goalkeeper is clear that Pedro Gallese, who is recovering from an injury, is the first choice to guard the Peruvian goal in the 2018 World Cup.
"I've always said that I really like Gallese. For me, he is a step above the others. He is a very complete goalkeeper," he said about the Veracruz Red Sharks' goalkeeper.
