Marlon Gonzales showed last Wednesday that he is becoming one of the featherweight (70 kilograms) fighters in Peruvian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). 'Fortaleza' managed to retain his Fusion Fighting Championship belt after defeating Jaime Córdoba by majority decision.

The MMA fight held in Rosedal de Surco was promoted as a 'champions' duel', as Jaime Córdoba arrived as the lightweight champion of the 300 Sparta promotion.

Jaime Córdoba controlled the fight with his takedowns in the first round, but he couldn't find a way to submit Marlon Gonzales who managed to resist. Meanwhile, in the second round, 'Fortaleza' improved his takedown defense and prevailed in the striking exchanges.

The fight became complicated for Córdoba in the third round, when he couldn't bring Marlon Gonzales to the ground and Gonzales landed better strikes. The victory was majority decision (two judges saw 'Fortaleza' as the winner and one saw a draw).

In this way, Marlon Gonzales managed to remain as the lightweight champion of the FFC and now has a professional MMA record of 14 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws. Meanwhile, Jaime Córdoba, who suffered his first defeat since dropping to welterweight (77 kilograms), now has a record of 10 wins and 4 losses.
