Alianza Lima suffered a significant setback for the upcoming matches of the Torneo de Verano and Copa Libertadores 2018. The doctor of Alianza Lima, Hugo Blácido, confirmed on RPP Noticias that Carlos Ascues suffered an injury in the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh and will be out of play for two to three weeks.

"Yesterday in training, he was taking some shots on goal and suffered a strain in the anterior region of his right thigh. We conducted some medical tests that revealed that he indeed has a fibrillar tear in the anterior rectus of his right thigh," said Blácido on the program 'Fútbol Como Cancha'.

"The recovery time is two to three weeks. He will be able to do exercises according to the treatment plan. We have already started therapy and hope to begin field work in about four or five days," he added.

The 25-year-old player was going to start against Ayacucho this weekend and Pablo Bengoechea will have to find his replacement. In addition, due to the amount of time he will be out, he may not make it to the Clásico against Universitario de Deportes and could play against Boca Juniors for the Copa Libertadores debut.

"I believe so (he will make it for Boca Juniors). We have highly skilled personnel and by the end of the month, he will be in optimal condition. We hope he doesn't miss the Clásico. We see it as very distant, but we never lose hope that things can improve," he concluded.
