The Peruvian team Melgar from Arequipa fell tonight at home by 1-0 against Chilean team Santiago Wanderers, a result that eliminates them from the 2018 Libertadores Cup.
The visiting team's goal came at the 44th minute of the game, with a powerful left-footed shot from Marco Medel from outside the box, impossible for goalkeeper Diego Penny.
This goal was the one that secured the qualification for the Chilean team, considering that the first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw.
Santiago Wanderers started the game with a quite offensive play that allowed them to reach the Arequipa goalkeeper on several occasions; Melgar balanced things out around the 20th minute.
However, Medel's goal sealed the match shortly before the end of the first half.
The second half was a constant effort from Melgar in search of a goal that never came, partly due to the team's disorder and the performance of the visiting goalkeeper.
Melgar is the second Peruvian team to be eliminated from the Libertadores Cup after Universitario was knocked out by Oriente Petrolero from Bolivia.
