Alianza Lima had their first test of the season against Audax Italiano from Chile in the Noche Blanquiazul and fell short with their fans. However, coach Pablo Bengoechea understands that the 2-0 defeat is not a setback, but rather an opportunity to improve with the start of the Descentralizado and, above all, the Copa Libertadores in mind.
"We have to improve a lot before Sunday (debut in the Torneo de Verano), that's our goal. I think we will arrive in great shape. There is a big difference between preseason games and those played for points," he said in a press conference.
► Alianza Lima takes shape: what is Pablo Bengoechea's playing style?
Regarding the debut against Boca Juniors in the Copa, on March 1st, Pablo Bengoechea added: "We are greatly concerned about improving at the international level. Neither in friendly matches nor in official ones, has Alianza Lima been able to win at Matute and that is a big concern"
Sport Boys, second test
The blanquiazul team will have a new friendly match this Wednesday against Sport Boys. Then, they will be ready to face Comerciantes Unidos on Sunday for the first round of the Torneo de Verano.
"It's good for us that Boys is in the first division, they have a lot of fans. They have reinforced their team well, like many others. The championship starts on Sunday and from there we will see the performance of all the teams," explained coach Bengoechea.
Regarding the team that will play against the pink team, he concluded: "The players who didn't have many minutes on Saturday will start the game, our intention is to see the entire squad and from there define the starting eleven for Alianza Lima on Sunday. We had in mind that we were going to play two 90-minute matches and that the whole squad would play."
