Life didn't change for him on Wednesday at Noche Crema, but seven months ago. At that time, Paulo de la Cruz wasn't doing well at Universitario de Deportes: he had to settle for training with the 99 category. Of course, he wasn't a starter and his departure, in fact, seemed like a matter of time. Everything changed with the arrival of coach Samuel Eugenio.
"I went for his ability, his joy for the ball, and his companionship. He has a quality similar to that of 'Cochoy' Rey Muñoz," said the coach of the 99 category to Depor.

Yes, after that, Paulo de la Cruz only dedicated himself to growing within the walls of Monumental and Campo Mar. He even became a champion in the Federación Cup with the Under 18 team of Universitario de Deportes.
Last August, he also had a whole experience with Raúl Ruidíaz, who a few weeks ago spoke highly of him on Twitter. The 'Pulga' went to watch his brother's training - they are from the same category - and was impressed with the 18-year-old boy. "Raúl hugged him and congratulated him," said coach Eugenio.
Troglio's mirror
Last Saturday, De la Cruz signed a two-year contract with Universitario. The boy who lives in Los Olivos plays as a right winger and also with a changed profile. Pedro Troglio didn't notice this during the preseason, but since the end of 2017. It all happened during a training session with the first team.
"There was a training session with the seniors and Pedro Troglio at the end of practice told him that he played beautifully, that he reminded him of his playing days, because of how he moves the ball and his curls," confessed Eugenio, who will be in charge of the 2000 and 2001 this year.
Paulo de la Cruz didn't play any minutes in the reserves, his passage was immediately to the senior team, due to injuries and the club's need, which this year cannot make new signings as punishment from the Licensing Tribunal.
"My intention was for De la Cruz to come on in the second half, but Quintero's injury made him a starter. I am happy with his performance," said Troglio. It only remains to take care of him so that the joy endures in Universitario de Deportes.
